DO YOU NEED A NEW HUSBAND OR A NEW THOUGHT LIFE?
EINSTEIN- 'The significant problems that we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking that we were at when we created them'.
With this one, I agree! When I was in recovery for eating disorders, I came across the phrase 'to do the same things again and again, but expect different results is madness'. Sometimes we are hoping for a different output in a certain area, but aren't willing to change the input. To really change a behaviour, the thought pattern behind it needs to change, otherwise we will repeatedly walk down the same well trodden paths.
Often we kid ourselves, thinking 'maybe this time it will be different...' Maybe this new relationship, job, school or house will make the problems go away, but unless change happens in the very core of our being- our belief system and thought life- the same behavioural patterns will soon resurface. This can be really disappointing when you have pinned your hopes on a change of circumstance to change your internal world. But the good news is that you don't have to wait for the circumstance to shift. You are empowered to change your internal world, right where you are. You just need to make some tweaks in your thoughtlife.
Most of us don't intentionally do the wrong things. But the reality is that we have blind spots, or areas of wrong thinking that mean we just don't see straight and do end up doing stupid things. Maybe it's a self sabotaging pattern that repeats, or a crippling lack of self esteem that continually causes you to miss good opportunities. You don't want it, but you don't know how to get free.
The reality is that we can't get ourselves out of these patterns of behaviour with the same set of thoughts that got us into them. We need a new way of thinking. A thoughtlife makeover.
As the bible puts it, 'be TRANSFORMED by the RENEWING OF YOUR MIND' Romans 12:2.

The good news is that Jesus died to set us free from the bondage of destructive patterns, to make us brand new, wash us white as snow and give us a fresh start. When the Spirit of God comes to live inside us, the Bible says we are 'born again'. Spiritually, we have a brand new start AND we have a new spiritual DNA that is one with Jesus. That means we have a new identity, a new family history, a new story, a new inheritance. The old has gone, the new has come. Your past no longer defines you. What has happened to you and what you have done wrong is not your story. Christ in you, the hope of glory, is your story! God looks at you and sees the perfection of Christ. YEEEEEEHHHHAAAA. That is good news!
You can jump out of bed in the morning and say 'Jesus! Thank you for loving me. Thank you that you are pleased with me. Thank you that you are excited to spend the day with me. Thank you that I am forgiven. Thank you that I am righteous in you. Thank you that I am washed whiter than snow. Thank you that you have made all things new. Thank you that your spirit lives inside me, empowering me to become like you.
