I am pleasing to my Heavenly Father
Do you know that you are pleasing to God? I imagine you can agree and believe that God loves you, but do you believe that he actually LIKES you?
Many of us live with the constant feeling that we are letting God, ourselves and others down. This wars with our intimacy with Him and others.
This week I had one of these ‘let down’ episodes. It took me about 4 hours to research what slow cooker to buy. When Dom understandably asked ‘is that the best use of your time?’ condemnation came flooding in. I began to beat myself up about not being better at making decisions.
In the past, that would have led to an eating episode and distancing myself from God. But now I am able to say ‘thank you God that I am pleasing to you, even when it takes me too long to make decisions. Thank you that you love me, thank you that I am forgiven. Thank you that I am righteous and cleansed in your sight. Thank you that you enjoy and me and am with me, in all of my imperfections.’
Condemnation is such a thief and when we live tormented by the voices that remind us of our shortcomings it can be crippling. But when we live aware of the smile of God over our lives, it makes us shine.
‘Those who look to Him are radiant, their faces are never covered with shame’ (Psalm 34:5)
How can we be confident of God’s smile over us? The cross
‘God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God’ (2 Cor 5:21)
If, by faith, we partake in this divine exchange we receive Christ's righteousness. God looks at us and sees the spotless record of Jesus. This is our righteousness, this our boast - that Jesus has made a way for us to totally washed clean. Hear more here!
May your face shine this week, in the knowledge that through Jesus and His death on the cross, you are forgiven, made new and pleasing to your Heavenly Father.
